Jiang Kapono, sitting behind the wooden counter of his shop, took a moment to take a cloth and wipe off the countertop. He sighed and ran one hand through the fur on the back of his head, as he waited patiently for a customer to come and buy a loaf of bread, or order a cake. Anything to keep him busy. Many people found it strange, that a Tiger with many battle scars performed such a humble job as baking, but Jiang was extremly proud of his newfound life. It was peaceful, and he enjoyed that.
He stuck his head out over the counter and looked down the streets at the other shops, and at the crowds milling about. There were Pigs, a few wolves, one or two tigers, a turtle, ducks, and all manner of citizens running around conducting their business. He yawned, stretched out, then stood up. He nearly banged his head on the low ceiling of the bakery's front room, as it had been built for one much shorter than he. He yawned and fiddled with his apron, sitting atop his bare chest. [For it was far too hot within the structure to wear a shirt; if he did, he'd sweat like a pig.] Since he wasn't baking, and he had no customers, he opted to remove the apron and lay it out atop a counter.
He brushed some flour off his apron and deposited the waste in a cheesecloth-lined wicker basket, then he set about washing a pair of his bread pans, to pass the time.

Yasmeen walked down the street, her arms crossed. She just left her litte apartment and she needed to find something to do. She was probably going to go get some bread. She loved the bread her mom used to get. It was so great. But she started to get something new trhat tasted almost identical. She walked to the little bakery and she smiled. She never really talke there, but today she felt like she wanted to. She smiled and just leaned on the counter a little. She loved the smell of the bakery. It smelt wonderful to walk by. She smelt the air and then smiled. She looked around making sure no one saw her doing that.
She looked at the tiger and she smiled. Was she blind? She neer realised a Tiger ran this place. Wow... She was really slow. She smiled and looked arund the bakery. It was really clean. It was small...but it was suitable. People gently bumped into her slightly but she didnt care. She was to taken away by what this Tiger looked like. she made sure not t stare...that was rude, and really suspicious.

Jiang continued washing the two pans for several minutes, until they were perfectly clean. He shook the excess water off them, then set them above the oven to dry. He wiped off his hands on a towel near the sink, then turned around to come face to face with a rather attractive female feline. [He didn't recognize the species] "Hello." He said softly, smiling faintly at her and stepping up to the counter, not at all caring that he was only wearing a pair of light brown pants with a flour spattered across the fronts. "What can I get for you today, Ma'am?" He asked, pulling out a piece of parchment from under the counter and a quill, to take a order.

Yasmeen smiled and looked at the male. His eyes were amazing. She looked around the Bakery and spoke softly. She had a soft voice that matched her looks. "I just want a loaf of bread...Please." she said smiling. She looked at Jiang and didnt stare. She ws good at that, She just glanced around the bakery and once she looked aqt how he wore no shirt, nor an aprn. she didnt mind. She made sure he didnt notcie. It was really hard to notice anything. She smiled and looked at her paws. She laughed in her head and looked around once more. She hoped she would be settled in soon.

Jiang nodded, then turned and walked over to a chest-high shelf next to the ovens. He removed a good-sized loaf of white bread, still warm from the oven, and walked back to the counter. He set it down, then wrapped it lightly in cheesecloth, to keep it from getting dirty on the way to her home. "Here, fresh from the oven." He said quietly, looking over at a list tacked to the frame of the shop's vending window. "That'll be... 2 pieces of silver." Jiang commented absentmindedly, looking back over his shoulder at the oven for a moment. He returned his attention to Yasmeen, who he found very interesting. "Are you new here?" He asked, placing his hands on the counter and standing up straight, a small but friendly smile creeping onto his muzzle.

Yasmeen smiled and took the 2 Silver out and gave it to him. She nodded slightly and ulled the Bread closer to her. She played along with the top of it. "Yes. Ive only lived here for about...two weeks, or so." she said smiling. Her voice was s soft and sweet. Who would have known she could kick anyones butt and probably win. She smiled and looked at Jiang. He seemed really sweet...and mysterious. By the looks of it, he fought too. You couldnt see her scars at the moment. Her scars were all on her back and legs. There was only one on her face and it wasnt bad at al. The ones on her back seemed like they still hurt. truth was...they did. She smiled down at her bread quietly and then looked back at Jiang. She was a Tigress that needed to be helped. She was so...self spoken and ept everything bottled up. Another good way to fight.

Jiang smiled at Yasmeene, and slightly nodded his head. "Things must be somewhat hectic for you, yes? Don't worry though, things'll settle down and the locals will warm up to you in a week or so. I know, I've lived her two, three years now." He replied, as he placed the silver into a bag and tucked the bag under the counter in a bread-box. "Oh, and my name is Jiang Kapono." He added, bowing his head slightly in greetings, as was the custom among warriors. It was a habit he had never managed to shake off.

Yasmeen smiled. "Im Yasmeen Slykarly. And yea...i havet met anyone actualy.." she said looking down at her hand for a second. She shrugged and smiled. 'I like your name..." she said softly. She looked away from his eyes. She would prbably not be ablt to look away if she looked into them for too long. She smiled and shrugged again. "I hope people start warming up to me...I hardly see anyone that smiles all the time or even attempts to." she said softly. she looked down again and just listened to what ever Jiang had to say.

Jiang sighed and shrugged. "Ever since the fire in the Temple last month, it's been that way. It'll go back to normal soon. We're tough here, nothing'll keep the people here down for long." He replied. "Yasmeen, if you don't mind my asking, where are you from originally? I'm from the Kim-Sung Valley, to the North." He asked, a curious twinkle in his dark green eyes. He then realized that being bare-chested made it possible for her to see some of the scars adorning his chest and back. [In reality, he had nothing to fear, the scars were invisible under his fur] He took a step back, reached for his apron, and slipped on a wet portion of the wood slat floor. He didn't even have time to yelp as he careened over backwards, landing on his tail-end on the floor, after banging his head rather hard against the counter. Oops.

Yasmeens eyes widened as he fell. She jumped over the counter and kneeled behnd him. She placed her hand on his head and smiled softly. "Dont move. Yor head will throb..Go easy..." she said softly. She was a Healer when her rank officer demanded she not go into battle. She knew how to fix this. She took a bag that hung over her shoiulder. She took a napkin and placed it on a small cut. "When you do something...you do it good..." she said looking at him. She shook her head and smiled. She took the napkin off and went to the sink and placed water on the napkin. She kneeled back down next to Jiang and placed it on the cut. The way she was sitting, the scars on her back that ran over her shoulders. At this point she didnt care. She looked at Jiang. "You okay."

Jiang kept silent, even though his head was throbbing. He sat perfectly still as Yasmeene attended to his wound. Once she was finished, he sat up, then slowly stood up. "I'm fine. I've lived through far worse." He replied with a faint smile. He noticed her scars, but made no mention of them. To him, it would be rude to speak of her wounds unless he knew her better.

Yasmeem noticed her scars were pink when she first got them....those must have been the new ones she had just gotten. She touched one and sighed. She then looked Jiang. "Okay... Just making sure.." she said softly. She crossed her arms slightly and leaned on the counter. and looked at her hand. She looked at Jiangi. "I had a feeling youve been through worse..." she said kind of under her breath. She felt bad for him...she had a feeling he lived the same life she did.

Jiang stood up, then brushed some dust off his shoulders and chest. He slowly nodded, then pointed to a cluster of scars on his chest. "I've had a rough life." He said quietly, smiling very, very weakly at Yasmeene. "Thank you. Not many people show me compassion." He added, his smile growing slightly. He glanced at one of her scars, and slowly shook his head. He wondered how she got her scars. Jiang pushed that thought from his mind as the scent of burning bread hit his nostrils. "Oh, dear." He sighed, walking around Yasmeene and towards the ovens.

Yasmeen smiled faintly and watched as he went over to the oven. She saw him look at her scars and she shrugged. "War...." she said softly. She looked at her feet and then out at all of the people walking by. She wanted to punch someone right now. She didnt know why. She guess because pictures of the war flashed through her mind. That was a sad part. She saw her friends die and even her brother get shot frm runnung in front of her to protect her. She sighed and lookked at Jiang. "Do you want help?" she asked softly.

Jiang sighed at the mention of war. He had only ever been in one major battle in his life, but it was him and four friends against one hundred warriors. He personally killed twenty before he was taken down. He shook the memories of blood staining his hands and his Katana, instead focusing on removing a pan of buns from the oven. Thankfully, only one was singed. "Huh? Oh, thank you. I've got it." He replied, setting the pan out on a counter and picking up another pan, filled with unbaked buns, and placing it in the oven. "So Yasmeene, where are you from?" He asked, leaning back against the wall and smiling a little at the tigress.

Yasmeene smiled and then sighed. "My home is the Arab-Chine Mountains. " she said softly. "I will never go there again." she said looking at her feet. She then looked at Jiang. "My sister moved to the Kim-Sung Valley." she said remembering things slowly. Her head was slammed against two boulders when someone caught her. SHer memory was still there, yet in some places it faded. She shrugged. She didnt even remember what her mother and father looked like. She didnt care either. She looked at Jiang and smiled softly.

Kim-Sung Valley. The name cut Jiang like a sword. The place of his birth, and the place where he lost everything and was cast out. Yasmeene's sister lived there... He silently prayed that her sister moved there after the battle, or at least hadn't lived in the Sanctuary. If she had... Then he knew her. One of his friends who had fought, and died, alongside him was a beautiful young Tigress. But she didn't die in battle... It was the enemy's interrogation of her that did her in. "What was her name?" He asked softly, looking down at his sandal-clad feet. He hoped and prayed to the gods that it wasn't Aisha.

Yasmeen smiled as she said her name. She loved her name. "Aishoota. Or Aisha for short..she hated her name. " she sighed and shrugged. "I'll never see her again thats for sure." seh said looking at her feet. She crossed her arms again and looked at Jiang. "Why.." she asked softly. She knew her niece was happy that her mother was gone. She never understood why but she didnt care about her niece either. She looked at Jiang and raised an eyebrow. She waqs slightly nervous.

Jiang closed his eyes and slowly shook his head. How could he tell Aisha's sister that he had been there as her world went black, as she laid atop a cold stone slab? [Black, but... Maybe not dead...] "I... I hate to tell you this, Yasmeene, but... She died... Eight years ago..." He replied, opening his eyes and looking back up at her. He had been holding her hand as she died, looking into her eyes, trying to comfort her. Losing Aisha... Was the most painful thing he had ever endured. Nothing before or since came close to her loss.
