Hello, I know several of members on the forum either have cubbies of there own, or plan to have them. One of the biggest threats to your child's safety is the internet. Don't go off now and disconnect your internet and hide with your child in a bomb shelter. Hopefully by reading this, you can learn some easy ways to make sure your child has a safe and fun time on internet.
If you have a kid that is just starting to use the computer and the internet, sit down with him or her in front of the computer. Show them some fun, family approved websites and always supervise them when they are on the internet at a young age.
Here are some things you can do to make sure your child is safe on the web.

If you have a kid that is just starting to use the computer and the internet, sit down with him or her in front of the computer. Show them some fun, family approved websites and always supervise them when they are on the internet at a young age.
Here are some things you can do to make sure your child is safe on the web.
- Plan times when your child can go on the computer supervised by a parent. Taking an hour a day for your kid to surf the net with a parent can make all the difference.
- Set Parental Control. Most computers come built with Parental Control. If you look in Internet Setting you can set the Parental Control levels to block group of sites "porn, gambling, chat". You can even add website that you don't want your child looking at on that list.
- Check Your computers History. Your Computer's History loges all the websites viewed and the amount of times they viewed the page. If your child says they viewed a site one time because they accidently clicked a pop-up, you could look and see they accessed it 195 times :-(. If your computers history doesn't show any entries, you child may have cleared it. This what most kids do. Your computers history should go back a few weeks, and if only shows back to the current day, then you know they erased it.
- Talk to your kids about internet safety. If you teach them to use the computer appropriately, and you have safeguards, you can keep your child safe
- Talk to them about "Stranger Danger on the Web". Many kids know not to talk to strangers in real life, but many don't know about Cyber Space. Give them advise what to do when someone they don't know sends them an IM, Email, or SMS Message. Teach them how to block people they don't know and set there buddy list so only people on there buddy list that you know talk to them.
