Hey to all my fellow Pride members! As some of you may know, I was cast as Ebenezer Scrooge in a local production of A Christmas Carol, and I just got back from our first show in front of a PAYING audience. IT WAS A SUCCESS! The house was less than half-full, but that was alright. It just amazes me how on Opening Night that everything somehow magically came together and we did a fantastic show! And that feeling at Curtain Call when I stepped forward to take the Final Bow was so amazing! The theatre was so loud when I took that Final Bow, and that was with only about 50 people in the audience (The theatre seats 205)! I can only imagine the reaction when we play the show that's been oversold. I can't wait! Well, that's one performance down, nine to go. Check back tomorrow, I'll outline tomorrow's performance. By the way, what makes the show even more enjoyable is that my girlfriend plays Ghost of Christmas Present and she get's to blow me a kiss onstage. Suddenly, that wasn't so awkward when we started going out. I know what you mean. I had a big part in a show last April and it was AMAZING!

Yeah. I get nerves EVERY time I'm about to go onstage, but once I'm up there, the nerves disappear and I'm told I do a great job. Scrooge is a fun role to play, especially in Scene One where I get to act like a real nasty jerk. And that's an understatement.

The Dress Rehearsal was so rough. I was actually breaking up and laughing onstage when trying to act like a jerk toward Cratchit. A professional videographer is coming in next weekend so I'll post that.

So we just wrapped up our second performance. Overall, I don't think I did as well as I did yesterday. I had a few slip-ups and flubbed one line. However, it still was a good show. Our director decided to alter the placement of the set pieces, so we can pretty much eliminate the need to bring on and off the big props (Tables, chairs, Scrooge's bed, etc.). As a result, my bed, which used to be Center Stage, is now Downstage Right. The only thing that has to be moved is Scrooge's bed, which when turned around has his gravestone for the Ghost of Christmas Future scene. I was supposed to have help turning the bed around, but nobody showed up. The show MUST go on, so I did it all myself. Now onto another annoying thing: tonight's audience. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful that they came out and enjoyed the show, but they kept laughing at every little thing! I was like, "This isn't a Comedy, people." The show has some comedic elements to it, but overall, it's more of a Drama than Comedy. One audience member liked it so much that he asked for some actor's autographs (Including mine!) and took a photo with Scrooge (Me), Jacob Marley, and the Ghost of Christmas Present. Now onto some more disturbing news. One of my fellow actors (Rafael Lima, who plays Bob Cratchit) told me that thier parents think that every actor is bad except for him and his brother (Gabriel Lima, who plays Fred and Fezziwig), and that our director is bad as well. I'm thinking, "Jeez, if you're gonna whine and moan about every aspect of the show, then don't come to it. We don't want people like you here!" Our director is very talented, and is the second-best stage director I've worked with (Nobody can beat my Drama teacher, Fred Chacon.). Their mother thought that I didn't pay attention because I was laughing during rehearsals. "Back off, that's why we rehearse so that we can get it right!" People like this annoy me so much. Anyway, that's all for now. Two shows down, eight to go. Remember, DON'T WISH ME LUCK! Hope I break a leg instead!
I got photos of us at our Final Dress Rehearsal. Well, we just wrapped up Performance #3. I feel, acting-wise, that I did a lot better than I did yesterday for Performance #2. The only thing I did wrong was that I accidently said a line too soon, when it should have been said later in the show. Therefore, because of my accident, a portion of Scene 4 was cut. It ran smoothly, though, and anyone who wasn't affiliated with the show wouldn't notice the problem. Another thing that happened is that at the end of Scene 4 is where there are two children that are inside Ghost of Christmas Present's hoop skirt. One stick's his foot out and, while it wasn't a comedic scene, people started laughing because of the way his foot was acting. Present also broke up and laughed a tiny bit onstage and I had to fight the urge to laugh. Overall, the show went well. Also, my girlfriend, who I've stated before plays Ghost of Christmas Present, had her dad and her dad's family coming to the show. She was totally stressing before the show and, as her boyfriend, it was kinda my job to at least try to calm her down. Afterwards, they invited for me to go to dinner with them, and it would be rude to decline, so I accepted. It went well. Lindsay (My girlfriend) was afraid they would make fun of me, but most ended making fun of her, so the ice was broken rather quickly. Her father was quiet most of the time, though everyone else was having fun. We ate at a Mexican restaurant called Acapulco. Anyway, that's all for today. We don't have any show tomorrow, and on Tuesday and Tuesday we're doing four special performances (Two each day), one of which is OVERSOLD! So we don't have to go to school on Tuesday or Thursday (Even though the theatre we're doing it at in on my school campus.), which will be cool. It works out great because I don't like my Tuesday schedule. I don't have my two favorite classes on that day. Thursday is alright. Then we do three more shows next weekend (Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM, Sunday at 1:30 PM), and then that's a wrap! I'm gonna miss doing the show. Also, I kinda wanna point out that in this photo, I only have three buttons. One broke off during one of our Dress Rehearsals.

Yeah, it's easy to miss. What happened is that Cratchit was helping me take off that jacket in the rehearsals, and it broke off. He ad-libbed, "I'll fix that, sir." It's fun to ad-lib with Cratchit when Scrooge is a real jerk. A photo of our director, Gene Kahane: I didn't realize how much facial hair he had until I saw this photo.

Well, we had two special shows for local schools today. Nothing eventful happened. We had to re-arrange our blocking, though. And we did a little Q&A session after both shows.
Between our two shows our lights guy, who's also a musician, played Greased Lightning from Grease and I did lead vocals. So fun.

Well, we didn't have a show today, but there's something show-related that I have to tell you about.
My dad called my house today and he wanted to bring along a few extra people. Okay, fine. However, included in the group was my stepmom, yes the Crazy Drunk Stepmom. I called my dad back when I got back from school. I told him straight-up that I didn't want her there. So he told me that he won't show up. Fine. We'll fill the seat with someone who wants to be there. Then he told me "FU," except I think you know what I mean. That's what made me down right now.

Well, we just wrapped up two more shows today. We have three more shows and then it's over. The first show, I think I did alright, just made it past my standards, which I usually set really high when it comes to acting. My second show was better, I acted a lot nastier, and my director says I kinda scared people into their roles. Pretty cool. Still nothing from my dad regarding what happened over the phone yesterday.

Well, we just wrapped up Performance #8. I feel like I did alright, but not that great. I met my own standards, but didn't exceed them by that much, I feel. It was alright and went pretty well though. One of my teachers said that he was gonna be at the show, but I never saw him show up. Hopefully tomorrow or Sunday. Some family friends showed up today, and some will be showing up tomorrow.

Just finished Performance #9. Once again, I feel like I performed not too far above my own standards, even though many say I did great. One funny thing happened where I slipped on the stairs going down from the stage to the audience (Part of the show takes place on the floor.), so I almost pulled a "Fred Chacon" (Fred Chacon is my drama teacher, and he fell off the stage in the very same theatre.). A few family friends showed up as well as my TV Media teacher J.D. (The second teacher to show up so far, after Fred.), and the house was about 75% full this time! We have a large crowd coming tomorrow, so I'm told. I shall update you tomorrow for our last show.

And that's a wrap, folks! We wrapped up our run of the show a few hours ago, and I just got back from the cast party. It's been a fantastic run, from our first days rehearsing at First Christian Church (They have a big room for rehearsing.), to our last week of rehearsals at the Alameda High Little Theatre, then our ten shows, and the curtain calls. It was all a great run and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Well, I have a short break until January 7 and then I'll be auditioning for Zombie Prom at my school. I know that'll be a blast and I'm pretty sure I'm getting in.
Until then, Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Ebenezer Scrooge (Miguel Gamalinda AKA Mikokat)
