And while he is intelligent, Sig isn’t the wisest man around, and will make foolish mistakes in his dealings with others at times.
However, sometimes, late at night, Siegfried’s past loss will catch up with him, an experience that serves to cause him great sadness and pain. So much so, that a few tears will well up in his light brown eyes…
History: Born in northern Germany to parents who had migrated there from Ethiopia, Siegfried was given up by his parents to a small clan of wolf merchants, who quickly took in the boy despite the differences between his species and their own. The wolves named him after one of the clan elders, and set about raising him in the finest and most noble traditions of their clan. He spent the first fifteen years of his life in Germany, where he was taught how to make a living as a gunsmith. However, when the political situation in Germany became unfavorable, Siegfried’s clan took him and left Europe. After visiting several different countries over the course of a year long journey, his clan finally settled in China. At first, Siegfried found the language much harder to grasp than his native German tongue, but he quickly adapted thanks to the help and tutelage of one of the clan elders, who had a excellent understanding of the Chinese language.
Once he could fluently speak in the tongue of the people of China, 16 year old Siegfried immediately set out to make a living for himself by creating firearms for the Imperial Army. It was a fine and well-paying job, and any excess weapons his paws wrought he handed over to his clan, who in turn traded them for him. After four years of this work, Siegfried’s clan decided to move away from the city they had settled in, and it was only natural for Sig to follow his clan. The Clan’s plan was to settle in the fabled Valley of Peace, at which point they would forever cease providing implements of war to any party. However, their plan was cut short in a fatal encounter in a place called the ‘Forest of Teeth’, where the small 20-strong clan was engaged by a wolves from the Lang Shadow Clan. While at first, Siegfried and his clan inflicted heavy casualties on Shadow Clan forces with their firearms and pikes, their foes soon managed to overwhem the clan with seemingly infinite numbers. With no hope of fighting them all off, and the knowledge that the Lang Shadow clan could cause massive damage with the stock of weapons in the caravan, Siegfried’s clan leader touched off a massive supply of gunpowder and other explosive materials contained in one of the heavy carts they were traveling with. The resulting explosion destroyed a hundred square meter patch of forest, and utterly destroyed both clan‘s forces. Siegfried, who had been knocked cold by the blast, only survived because of his heavy imported Spanish armor, and because he had been taking cover in a three-meter deep trench a few dozen meters from the detonated cart while reloading his weapons.
When Siegfried came to, he was greeted by the sight of his clan-mates, all blasted apart by the explosion. He couldn’t even tell who was who anymore, so badly ruined were their bodies. Siegfried mourned their deaths as long as he could, took what he could carry from the wreckage of the other carts, then fled south, in the general direction of the Valley of Peace.
He made it to Lotus Lake, where his skills with his weapons were immediately called upon when the small village of tortoises living upon the shores were attacked by a group of thugs. He wiped out most of the thugs on his own, thus helping to prevent the village from being ransacked, but one of the thugs managed to break his leg and inflict some other, even more serious wounds during the fight. Thusly, Siegfried was forced to put off his plans to head to the Valley of Peace for three months while he healed up.
When he was able to set out again, Siegfried made a beeline directly for the Valley of Peace. It took him a couple months to find his way, but eventually, he made it through the Wu Dan mountains and into the village laying under the Jade Palace.
Now that he’s in the village, he’s hit a problem: He has no silver with which to buy a home, or even get a room at the inn. And most of the villagers have, thus far, expressed concern over hiring a predator as strange as he with as curious a past and set of talents as he. [Apparently, being good at blowing things up isn’t usually a good skill to have when applying for a job.]
Currently, he’s spent only two or three days in the village, living in a small tent he pitched within a small bamboo grove a mile and a half outside the Village. It’s just a temporary place, until he can either find employment, or until he gets desperate enough to go and steal some loot from a group of bandits.
Nevertheless, Siegfried is excited to finally be in the Valley of Peace, and even though his clan lives on only in his memories, his spirits are still high.
Skills: Expert in the use and creation of ranged weapons and explosives.
Fighting Style: Self-taught, revolving around ranged weaponry.
Fighting Strengths: Obviously has a long-range advantage over many opponents. A single hit from his large-caliber smoothbore musket can kill or disable all but the largest of foes. He is extremely skilled at loading his Snaphance, and can fire much faster than one might expect. If he happens to be caught while reloading either of his longarms, he can use his gunsword and pistols to deadly effect at close range. And if that fails, he can use his sheer physical strength to rip opponents apart in a unskilled and savage but brutally effective assualt.
Fighting Weaknesses: Due to the nature of his combat training, he’s a little too dependent on long-range firepower. Other than that, no real weaknesses.
Weapons: Snaphance type longarm, dual Miquet pistols, a repeater-type petronel, and a 14.7MM smoothbore flintlock built specifically for long-range shooting. Experimental miiaturized 10MM pistol built into his right gauntlet’s arm guard. His final weapon is a ‘gunsword’, which is a traditional double-edged longsword that has the barrel of a .50 caliber pistol running down the middle of the blade, leaving the muzzle at the very tip of the blade, where the blade has been modified to be a |\/| shape.
Special Skill/Ability: Feral Rage: In the heat of battle, Siegfried can allow his adrenaline and bloodlust to overtake his more civilized nature, thus turning himself into a borderline unstoppable feral killing machine. In this frenzied state, Siegfried will ignore most wounds, but if he takes enough damage or loses enough blood, he’ll snap out of it. [At which point he’ll probably try to retreat to a safe location to patch himself up.]
