Again, if you do not have an HDTV, you should NOT buy Blu-Ray. Certainly stay with DVD, and deal with the lesser quality.
But, to clarify, Sin, traditional Blu-Ray players are standalone. They were available BEFORE the PS3. You do not need a PS3 to play it. You can get a player, and still not have anything to do with PS3, if you are going to be so set against it. That's your perogative.
But I will point out this: is it any different than when DVD first came out? People eventually upgraded to DVD from VHS. The same is inevitable for Blu-Ray. Eventually, VHS will totally phase out, and in its time DVD will, as well. I would encourage you, especially since if your TV breaks you have no choice but to switch to HDTV (it's all they sell now!) to at least consider Blu-Ray as an option. Because if your DVD player breaks in the future, you may have no other options... Having a TLK DVD with nothing to play it in would be a shame, and a crime.

Geez, around here, I NEVER see a discount on Blu-Ray. They're in high demand. But, again, since Blu-Ray is pointless on a normal TV, only someone with HDTV can really enjoy them.

I heard somewhere that Blu-Ray for The Lion King is coming in Fall of 2011. I hope not, and instead be released 2009 where it's the 15 year anniversary. Besides, I can wait that long because I have a PS3, and it upscales your DVD's into Hi-Def. I did comparisons with TLK, and there is a HUGE difference! *Edit* At the CES 2008 show, they displayed upcoming Blu-Ray titles, including The Lion King! Link:http://www.blu-ray.com/ces2008/

lol i so a ofer on the site 2 for £16 pound for blu ray disk lol That's about $31.75 in US dollars. That's what they cost normally here for one. I would never pay any more than that anyhow. But that's if I buy them in a store. Online, it depends on what the title is. I've seen Blu-Ray for $10, but I might not want to own that movie... DVDs are cheap. New releases around here usually $15-$20. Old releases can be found in the Wal-Mart bargain bin for $5.50. (or 2.77 in British pounds.)

I noticed the difference between playing the DVDs on a regular player and on Blu-Ray. The upconvert alone IS impressive! It makes me all the more anxious for the release of TLK. But somehow I think we'll have a long wait.

*groans* We get it already. You're anti Blu-Ray. But some of us aren't. And some of us are really, really looking forward to an improved version of our favorite movie. Basically it's all about TLK. That's why we're all here...

i not buying anthing to do with ps3 i happy with mky dvd lion king Well, you don't need a PS3 for Blu-Ray, there are other Blu-Ray players, you know that right? And if you have a T.V with a built in H.D Tuner, thats great, but it's still not as good as buying/having an HDTV with Full Hi-Def/1080p. Just because your T.V will display HD, your DVD will still look the same, just a TINY bit better....TINY. Here's where Blu-Ray comes in handy, it's opponent HD-DVD is already dead. HD-DVD can't support 1080p, and the disc can't store as much content as a Blu-Ray disc (up to 50 GB). There is 720p HD and 1080p HD. 1080p is Full-HD, where it has more vibrant colors and richer textures. Since Blu-Ray can be hooked up through an HDMI connection, the sound quality will be superior, and the colors more in-depth. If you don't want Blu-Ray because of the picture quality, then you will be missing out on ALOT of features the directors will put as Bonus Features on the disk. As for the Wii being better than the PS3.......get real. I can see the Xbox360 as a competitor, but not the Wii. PS3 now has rumble, and with the implemented Blu-Ray player, the games/movies will be stunning. The Wii is great and all, (I have one) but it's a family type console. Sure, I can see how Sony stole the motion sensing idea from Nintendo, but Nintendo never developed the concept in the beginning. Go with a PS3, believe me, it's WAAAYYYY better than a Wii. Plus the PS3 has a ton of features that the Wii doesn't. If you have any questions just ask me, I'll gladly help. ;D *P.S. If you want to see the difference of DVD upscaled and Blu-Ray quality, I can show some comparison pics, just ask me. (You will see a HUGE difference!)

Yes, Blu ray is way better then any DVD can do you. TLK is going to look great on an HD-TV and Blu-Ray player!

(whispers to Knarrly) Maybe someone should tell sin that HD is dead and Blu-Ray is the only way to go. Or maybe he just wants to live in the stone-age still and watch TLK on his rock TV. hehe.

Everything the Wii can do, so can the PS3, its just the games that are different. Just like you, I grew up with Nintendo as well (NES, SNES, N64, Gameboy, Gamecube, and Wii.) But we gotta face it.....technology is what really matters when it comes to entertainment, and the PS3 is the most advanced out of all 3 systems. Besides, Blu-Ray is gonna last way more than 5 years. While I watch The Lion King in Hi-Def on Blu-Ray, your gonna be watching it in Standard Definition. I respect your opinion, its just that with Blu-Ray, the directors will include alot of Bonus features that a single DVD can't hold. I have the Special Edition DVD, and when I watch it on my PS3, it is upscaled to Hi-Def, but still not Blu-ray quality. Thats something a Wii CAN'T do. If you want me to post some pics showing the DVD playing regularly, and the DVD upscaled, I can do that for you. You will see a huge leap in picture quality. But I gotta say, the Wii is fun.

I'm just saying that point blank, you will need Blu-Ray to watch it in Hi-Def. Theres no HD-DVD coming out for it. DVD to Blu-Ray is a huge leap. If you think that a DVD played on an HD T.V is in Hi-Def, then your totally wrong....
