As you all know, I'm a huge fan of Kiara, but I also really like Nala. In the first TLK movie, Nala played a major role in both storyline as well as Simba's character development. She was truely a main character. So what happened in TLK2? Did mother-hood take away her spirit or something? She had very few lines, less scene time and obviously, less of a role in the storyline itself. So why do you think this is?
If I had to take a guess at why they did this, it would have to be so the audience would focus more on Kiara as the main character. It's very apparent that Nala has a HUGE fan base and so maybe if they made her too involved in the storyline, people would be more inclined to focus on Kiara and her side of the story. I'm happy with the way the story turned out, it's just it would of been nice to see and hear more of the lioness we all know and love. That's one of the reasons I liked 1 1/2. More time with Nala. Let's just hope in the next movie (crosses fingers for a new movie) that Nala gets a slightly bigger roll (Nala Roll ftw lol).

I agree, Nala did not get enough "air time". But, you're right, it was probably so we'd focus on Kiara.

She was downplayed in the second movie but I doubt it was intentional. I really don't know how they could have incorporated her more into the main plot :\
It's ok though, I never like Nala much anyways >__> XD
