It was a dark night, chilly. The little wind that had enough strength to blow sent shivers through the tree Caden had chosen as that nights resting place. The young lion lay on his back with blue-ish green eyes gazing lazily into the night sky, watching the stars. He knew nothing of any constellations, planets, specific stars or even of the past Kings. No, he lay there with his innocent and ignorant mind drifting off into a deep slumber. He felt safe where he was under that lonely tree in the middle of no where; his body relaxed and so did his mind, succumbing into his subconscious thought. Eventually he was blessed with a dream that began to weave and form before his eyes. He was running through a jungle full of fruits and flowers, tumbling down hills and just having a merry old time of it. In his dream he met other lions, young and old, each sharing a dream and swimming in the river.

Kivu sighed as he wandered through the Pride Lands, obviously trying to fight insomnia. He wanted to fall asleep, but couldn't. For some reason he just couldn't lay down, close his eyes, and drift off to dreamland. After a few more minutes of wandering he finally found a comfortable place to lie down and fall asleep.
"Wait...where am I? The Pride Lands? Hmm, let's see. There's the jungle...and a river runs through it," The teenage lion told himself as he looked around while wandering through the jungle before coming across a river. Not a single soul appeared to be in sight other than him.
-----
Santiago rolled over in his sleep before starting to snore, his dream projecting an image of the same oasis that the other lions were wandering through.
"Woah, cool," He muttered to himself as he looked around at his surroundings. There were flowers and trees, and he could hear something. As he walked towards the sound he saw a waterfall that fed into a river below where other lions and lionesses were playing. He quickly tried to find a way down the ledge.
-----
"I see eyes staring out...a waterfall rushing. I hear laughing..." Vanessa thought aloud as she tried to think of where she was. One moment she was lying down in the Pride Lands, the next? She was here. In this oasis. With a river and other lions and lionesses who appeared to be having a good time. Not thinking of anything else to do, Vanessa broke into a run as she neared the water's edge before jumping in.
"Woah! Water's great!" She called out to nobody in particular as she resurfaced with a laugh.

Caden, a natural loner, stood off to the side of the large pond beside the waterfall. The rushing of the water and the crashing as it hit the rocks and pool were all he could hear; save for some loud laughter and splashing. His tail swayed back and forth behind him like a metronome, his paws hitting the earth softly as his body occasionally jerked as if he were to jump in. But alas, he did not, and he probably never would. In this dream world he had forgotten of his life outside and was mistaking this for reality so it frightened him to interact with strange lions. Caden didn't possess great social skills and often blurted out things that should never be brought up in conversation...like his last bowel movement. The scenes were always the same: he would find someone to talk to, say something obscure and ruin it. Then, he would sulk off and fall asleep somewhere. I want to play, I really do he thought to himself and his body jerked again.

Kivu looked around a bit before noticing Caden standing alone next to the waterfall. Not unlike the other lion, Kivu had been a loner at times, but not fully. You see, he had grown up in the Pride Lands, but never knew his real parents. He was taken in by Santiago and his mate Vanessa and was raised as if he were the couple's cub.
"Hey, you okay? You're, like, all twitchy and stuff," Kivu asked as he drew closer to Caden, noticing the jerky movements of the lion. He kept his mouth shut and laughter out, even though he did find the sudden movements humorous. What little red mane had grown in already was bouncing on his head and neck with each step. Although it didn't look like much now, Kivu took great pride and keeping it looking good so that when it finishes growing in, his mane will be something of pride to him.

Caden had flinched slightly when he heard the voice beside him, ears perking up and his eyes blinking open before turning his head. Startled, the young lion leaped back clumsily and sat there, trying to regain his cool. "Oh! yeah, I'm fine!" he offered a kind smile, his body language spoke louder than anything, giving off that he was nervous and almost scared to be near Kivu. Caden had also never known his parents; half the time he didn't even think he had them. Ever since that day in his old pride, all of his memories had vanished and he was left with nothing but an awkward personality and an inability to keep his mouth shut. His gaze turned back to the pool. "I just wanna play but I can't..." he was frowning now, the heart-shaped mark on his cheek drooped along with everything else. His own mane, black, was scruffy and scraggly and wild, growing in each and every direction. He barely noticed when his body started moving again, paws anticipatingly tapping against the rock he was so handsomely perched on. His claws rapped the rock, making little clinking noises. "I don't know how to swim"

"Something gives me the feeling that the water's harmless," Kivu replied with a chuckle as his green eyes studied Caden's reaction as he gave the lion a reassuring smile. He tried his best not to scare the other adolescent even more, considering he seemed terrified to be having company. Despite the confidence that he held inside him, Kivu was starting to wonder why the other lion claimed that he couldn't play.
"What do you mean you can't play, anyways?" He inquired politely, quietly, and even gently. There was something about this lion that caught his attention. And he wasn't quite sure what.

If lions could blush, Caden would be about ten shades of a nice deep red. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest out of not only fear but humiliation. He shifted uncomfortably and raised an arm, rubbing his face with his paw for a brief moment. He had seen the reassuring smile that came from the other and it sort of made him feel better, safer. After a few more moments of a slightly awkward silence, Caden spoke again.
"I can't play because I don't know how...and I get scared" which was pretty much him in a nutshell. He didn't do anything if he was scared, which was a lot of things. Caden never had anyone to reassure him about much and it was kind of a surprise he was even still alive. He didn't hunt because the herds looked big and scary, he didn't wander very far at a time because he thought he would get lost, he didn't even walk in open spaces too much because he was afraid he was being watched. "I want to, but they don't like me. I know they don't." Caden was quite the pessimist.

"Who? Them? I doubt that they don't like you. C'me on, just give it a try. It'll be fun," Kivu replied as he listened to the pessimistic undertone in the other lion's comment. He was an optimist, or at least he considered himself one. He chuckled as he walked up behind Caden before using his strength to nudge him off of the rock before shoving him into the lake.
Despite how gusty this may seem, the water did seem harmless. And even then, if Caden began to drown, Kivu could more than likely pull him to safety. Kivu was, after all, a competent and strong swimmer.

Caden peered over the edge to look down as Kivu spoke, tilting his head to the side curiously as he started to wonder if maybe he did have a chance to maybe make some friends for once...and keep them. A grin curled onto his lips at the aspect and he licked his lips slowly. "Well I guess I could g-...hey hey hey!" he cried out in surprise when Kivu went behind him and pushed him. Instantly his joints locked up and he tried to push back, but he wasn't the strongest lion.
Suddenly he felt his paws slip off the rock and he cried out, the sudden gut wrenching feeling of falling filled him. As he looked down, the noticed other lions and lionesses watching him and...cheering? He was soon plunged down beneath the water, it was cool but not cold. His mouth opened wide with a shocked gasp and water filled his lungs...but he could breathe. Caden flailed his legs around awkwardly, attempting to swim but he was going no where.

"Darn. I guess he was right," Kivu muttered to himself as he watched the lion's pitiful attempts at swimming before leaping off of the edge as well and falling into the water with a resounding splash. He swam around under the water a bit before resurfacing and looking at Caden with a laugh. He quickly swam over and positioned himself under the other lion so as to pull him along on his back when he resurfaced.
"You were right when you said you can't swim, huh?" Kivu asked as he resurfaced with Caden on his back before swimming to the edge and climbing out, only to slip and fall flat on his stomach, dumping the other lion off of his back. "Oops. You okay?"

Caden flailed and squirmed in the water, splashing and choking before he felt a body beneath him pull him up. When he was up he took a deep breath, too frightened and embarrassed to realize the strangeness of the water. Sure, it felt like water, made you weightless like water, but it actually wasn't really there. It could be breathed and it would not fill the lungs and kill you; if anyone had been looking closely, they would see that the water was a purer and shinier blue than normal water.
Caden clutched onto Kivu as if his life depended on it, his claws clutching tightly but not hard enough to pierce his flesh. "Oomph!" he grumbled as he was dropped off of Kivu's back. "Y-yeah...I'm okay" he was shaking all over, slowly clambering up to get away from the water, shaking off. Some of the other lions around were watching and laughing, but not at him.

"You know...I never thought I'd say this about another lion, but you're kinda' cute," Kivu replied with a laugh as he shook off the excess water before running a forepaw through his mane and sitting down in front of Caden with a goofy grin. He chuckled as he lifted a paw up and gently used it to try and restore order to the other lion's messy mane, although to no avail. "Your mane doesn't wanna stay in place," He replied with a laugh.
-----
Santiago looked around before spotting Vanessa in the distance he quickly ran over to her, not realizing that he probably should have drowned considering he had run through a river without holding his breath. "Hey!" He called out as he pounced the lioness who laughed as the two landed on the ground together before nuzzling each other.
"Didn't think I'd see you here, stranger," Vanessa replied with a smile as she gazed into her mate's eyes.

"Hm?" he made a small questioning noise in his throat. Caden had his head hung low, feeling foolish as he watched some of the giggling lions. He shut his eyes briefly as Kivu shook excess water from his fur and some of the droplets got his face. He smiled slightly at the compliment and raised his head a bit. "Really?" it was difficult for him to accept a compliment, seeing as how never got them often. He watched Kivu fix his mane and sat up straight again, giggling when Kivu attempted his. "I know, I know...it never has and I don't think it ever will" he smiled again.
Caden stretched loudly, joints cracking and setting into place as he stood up and looked back at the pond. He didn't really want to play with the others any more, he felt as though he got his wish and would be fine with Kivu as his friend. But then, it kind of dawned on him..."Do you know where we are?"

"Really," Kivu replied as he gave up on trying to fix Caden's mane after having almost no such luck at making any sort of progress. He couldn't help but chuckle when he heard the lion mention that he doubts that his mane will ever stay in place before hearing the inquiry as to the two lions' current location. Kivu looked around for a moment before looking back at Caden. "Looks like the Pride Lands, sounds like the Pride Lands...."
